You Only Live Once represents the final work of the Smiley Series. Each individual panel measures 8 inches square, is mounted to float on a panel painted with iridescent, soft yellow. The inside of each floater frame is painted to match, the edges are gently distressed. Each YOLO work uses the same shimmering yellow and fluorescent orange to complement the silver foil of the offset litho applied to the Smiley stickers. Detail; Black Eye, So What. The embossed foil lithography really gets a workout, I look to stop when the silver emerges to complement the particular colors. The idea is to not overwhelm the lemon yellow or the silver of the foil stamping but to get to just the right compositional balance.
